Hit and Run Accidents

Hit and run accidents put innocent accident victims in peril. Philadelphia is known for its high rate of Pennsylvania hit and run car accidents.  The usual reason for why a person runs after a PA or NJ car accident is because they do not have proper auto insurance.  There are other common reasons for NJ and PA hit & run accidents such as the driver is driving under the influence, has a suspended driver’s license, is in a stolen vehicle, or has a warrant out for his or her arrest.

Hit and run drivers are often caught. Many times hit and run drivers do not have insurance. Learn how to recover from a hit and run accident.

If you have been involved in a Bucks County, PA or Mercer County, NJ hit and run accident, it is important that you attempt to write down the license plate number, make, model, and color of the vehicle.  If possible, take a photo of the vehicle and driver.  If you are physically able, the local police or PA or NJ State Police should then be immediately called and informed of the hit and run perpetrator’s vehicle description.  Many times the police are able to locate the vehicle that caused the Philadelphia hit and run accident.  You would be surprised at how many hit and run drivers actually drive home and leave their damaged vehicle on the street or in their driveway, making it easy for police to find and arrest the driver of the PA hit and run car accident.

If you did not observe the vehicle that caused the NJ or PA hit and run accident, you should still call the police immediately so that a police accident report is filed.  This will help prove your claim if you are injured and if your vehicle is damaged in the accident.  If the driver who caused the New Jersey or Pennsylvania hit and run accident is never found, you will be forced to file an injury claim under your uninsured motorist auto insurance policy.  In a usual PA or NJ car accident, the other driver has auto insurance coverage that you would seek to recover from.

In a hit and run accident, if the other driver is not found or if he or she is found but uninsured, you will be limited to the limits of your uninsured motorist insurance coverage on your Pennsylvania or New Jersey auto insurance policy. This is why it is so important to have adequate uninsured auto insurance coverage.

It is important to contact a personal injury lawyer soon after your Philadelphia, Bucks, or Mercer County hit and run accident.  A personal injury lawyer must prove that the other vehicle was uninsured.  Certain legal acts must be initiated to prove a hit and run accident occurred soon after the collision.
